The Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria will host the Lagos Regional Engineering Stakeholders Summit, focusing on the council’s recent restructuring, reforms, and new operational framework.
In a statement signed by the President and Chairman of COREN, Prof Sadig Abubakar, the summit, announced on Tuesday, will take place in Lagos on February 18, 2025.
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu will serve as the Special Guest of Honour for the event, which will include a keynote address on the role of engineering in sustainable infrastructure development and economic growth, both within Lagos State and Nigeria at large.
As the regulatory authority for engineering education, training, and practice in Nigeria, COREN said it remains committed to enhancing professional standards, ensuring compliance, and fostering innovation in the sector.
The summit will bring together policymakers, industry leaders, academia, and professionals to discuss COREN’s legislative and operational reforms aimed at improving efficiency, compliance, and governance within the engineering sector nationwide.
A key highlight of the event will be the inauguration of the Lagos Regional Steering Committee, which will oversee COREN’s Regional and State Offices.
The committee will provide technical and administrative oversight, ensuring the effective implementation of key regulatory activities, such as engineering training, investigations, and compliance monitoring.
Additionally, the summit will introduce an expansion of COREN’s regulatory activities to cover 11 engineering sectors. This restructuring is aimed at improving industry governance, deepening specialization, and enhancing the regulatory framework within Nigeria’s engineering sector.
The Chairman of COREN, emphasized the importance of the summit in aligning Nigerian engineering practices with global standards.
“This summit presents a unique opportunity for engineers, policymakers, and industry leaders to engage in meaningful discussions that will shape the future of engineering practice in Nigeria,” he said.
Stakeholders, engineering professionals, and members of the public are encouraged to participate in this crucial national discourse, which will influence the trajectory of engineering practice in Nigeria.
