Equipping staff with the right skills and knowledge on how to effectively fill out the Annual Performance and Evaluation Report (APER) is essential in enhancing optimal service delivery and professional development.

This was emphasized by the Director of Career Services at Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic (ATAP), Bauchi, Dr. Muhammad Auwal Sulaiman, during a one-day capacity-building workshop organized for staff of the institution. The training focused on the effective use and proper completion of the APER form.

Abubakar Muhammadu reports that this workshop is the first of its kind aimed at guiding staff on the correct processes of filling their APER forms.

The Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr. Hashim Sabo Bello, alongside the Director of Career Services, Dr. Muhammad Auwal Sulaiman, jointly stressed that the objective of the training was to ensure a fair, objective, and transparent evaluation process. They also highlighted the need to eliminate common errors, avoid bulk scoring, and introduce best practices in the annual assessment of staff.

Guest Speaker at the event, Labaran Ibrahim, spoke extensively on the structure, purpose, and scoring of the APER form. He emphasized its significance in career growth, performance tracking, and promotion within the civil service system.

Other facilitators, including Sambo Aliyu and Muhammad Sani Muhammad, urged supervisors to uphold fairness and objectivity while evaluating their subordinates. They pointed out that constructive feedback helps to strengthen team relationships and improve individual and institutional performance.

Participants interviewed after the session expressed satisfaction with the workshop, describing it as insightful and beneficial to their personal development and future promotion prospects.

The training drew attendance from Deans of various schools, Heads of Departments, Directors of Units, and other key staff across the institution.
