A polytechnic is a technical institution offering post-secondary technical education programmes leading to the award of diplomas/certificates such as the National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND). 

Private polytechnic is an institution managed by a proprietor, community or group of people.

Private polytechnics may be expensive but they are the best when it comes to academic programmes and school calendar because there is nothing like ASUP or ASUU strike in a private polytechnic.
