IITH Rector Applauds SECOF Foundation for Empowering Students with Scholarships

The Rector of the International Institute of Tourism and Hospitality (IITH), Yenagoa, Prof. Apuega R. Arikawei, has commended the Saturday Emomotimi Charles Outreach Foundation (SECOF) for its commitment to supporting academic excellence through scholarships.
Speaking during the foundation’s visit to the institute on Friday, January 24, 2025, Prof. Arikawei praised SECOF’s efforts in easing students’ financial burdens and encouraging resilience and hard work. He urged the foundation to expand its reach to accommodate a broader range of students for fairness and inclusivity.
Hon. Saturday Emomotimi Charles, the Founder and Executive Director of SECOF, emphasized that the initiative targets average students striving for success. “We are here to support students who are determined to graduate and achieve their dreams, not those with a sense of entitlement,” he stated.
During the visit, the foundation awarded ₦50,000 to the best-performing student, Mrs. Bibobra A. Brabokedi, a 200-level Hospitality Management Technology student. She also won the Magic Box Raffle Draw, where she had the choice of having her house rent, school fees, or food expenses covered. Additionally, 30 students received ₦10,000 each through the Helping Hand Raffle Draw.
The scholarship awards are part of SECOF’s annual initiative to uplift students and encourage academic excellence, further strengthening its collaboration with IITH to support education in Bayelsa State.
