UNILORIN Students Receive Support Through OPay’s ₦1.2 Billion Scholarship Initiative

Students of the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) have been named the latest recipients of OPay’s ongoing ₦1.2 billion scholarship program, a decade-long initiative aimed at promoting access to quality education across Nigeria.
In an event attended by top officials from both OPay and UNILORIN, the partnership was formally announced, further reinforcing OPay’s dedication to academic empowerment. The financial services company continues to invest in Nigerian youth by reducing the financial burden on students, allowing them to concentrate on their academic pursuits and personal development.
Dauda Gotring, OPay’s Managing Director, emphasized the company’s belief in education as a catalyst for national growth. “We see this scholarship as more than just financial aid. It’s a long-term investment in the bright future of this country,” he stated.
The Vice-Chancellor of UNILORIN, Professor Wahab Olasupo Egbewole (SAN), expressed appreciation for the initiative, calling it a welcome contribution to the university’s commitment to educational advancement. “This is a timely intervention, and it shows OPay is in tune with the national education agenda,” he said during the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
This development places UNILORIN among the growing number of universities benefiting from OPay’s scholarship initiative, which is structured to span ten years and impact multiple institutions. The company’s focus remains on supporting capable students who face financial challenges, helping them reach their full potential.
OPay, established in 2018, has grown into a key player in Nigeria’s financial technology space, offering services such as money transfers, utility payments, airtime and data top-ups, card solutions, and more. Licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and insured by the NDIC, the company continues to combine innovation with social responsibility to build a more inclusive future.
