UK Chevening Scholarships 2025: Applications Now Open for Nigerian Graduates

Applications for the prestigious Chevening Scholarships for the 2025–2026 academic year are now officially open. The UK government is inviting qualified individuals across Nigeria to apply for the fully funded opportunity to pursue a one-year master’s degree at any accredited university in the United Kingdom.
The application window runs from August 5 to October 7, 2025, and interested candidates are urged to begin the process early to avoid last-minute challenges.
What is the Chevening Scholarship?
Funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) and partner organisations, Chevening is a globally respected scholarship scheme that empowers emerging leaders from over 160 countries. It covers tuition fees, travel costs, accommodation, and other expenses for a full-time master’s programme in the UK.
Since its inception in 1983, more than 60,000 professionals worldwide have benefited from the programme, with many alumni returning to take up leadership positions and drive development in their countries.
What Makes You Eligible?
Chevening isn’t just about academic achievement — it seeks individuals who are committed to making a positive difference in their communities and on the global stage.
According to the Head of the Scholarships Unit at the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, Emma Hennessey, only the most exceptional and motivated candidates make it through.
“Chevening’s competitive selection process identifies those with outstanding leadership potential, influence, and the ability to create meaningful, lasting change,” she said.
“Our alumni are using the education, experience, and confidence gained in the UK to tackle global challenges and improve lives back home.”
She also advised aspiring scholars who may not feel ready yet to start gaining relevant experience that would strengthen their future applications.
A Golden Opportunity for Nigerian Leaders
The British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Dr. Richard Montgomery, emphasized that the scholarship is more than a financial award — it’s a gateway into a powerful international network.
“Chevening connects you to a vibrant community of global changemakers — from policymakers to entrepreneurs, public health advocates, and innovators,” he said.
“This is an opportunity for ambitious Nigerians to sharpen their skills, broaden their vision, and return equipped to lead impactful change in Nigeria and beyond.”
Dr. Montgomery encouraged applications from individuals in all fields — whether interested in public service, business, science, media, or the creative industries.
