Shocking Assault! Federal Polytechnic Nekede Lecturer Caught on Video Beating Student, Mgt and NAPS React

Tension gripped the campus of Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, yesterday, following the shocking assault of a student by a lecturer, Mr. Okoroafor Ifeanyichukwu. The disturbing incident, which took place on the 13th of March, 2025, has sparked widespread outrage among students and the general public.
In a video exclusively obtained by POLYTV, Mr. Ifeanyichukwu was seen violently slapping a defenseless student, who fell to the ground as a result of the attack. The footage quickly went viral, drawing condemnation from students, civil society groups, and education stakeholders across Nigeria.
Reacting swiftly, the management of Federal Polytechnic Nekede has issued an official suspension letter to the embattled lecturer, pending the outcome of an investigation into the incident. The suspension, signed by Engr. Dr. Okoye P.C., Director of the Technical and Entrepreneurship Development Centre (TEDC), was dated 14th March, 2025. The letter emphasized the institution’s commitment to uncovering the truth and delivering justice.
Meanwhile, the National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) has waded into the matter, condemning the assault in the strongest terms. In a statement signed by its National President, Oyewumi Festus Ayomide, NAPS described the act as “barbaric and reprehensible,” calling it a gross abuse of power and a violation of the student’s rights.
NAPS issued a list of demands to the institution’s management, including:
- A thorough and transparent investigation.
- Severe disciplinary action against the lecturer to deter future occurrences.
- Immediate steps to safeguard the rights and welfare of students on campus.
“We are giving the management of Federal Polytechnic Nekede 72 hours to act decisively, or face mass action from the Nigerian Polytechnic student community,” Oyewumi stated. “Any attempt to cover up this case will be met with fierce resistance. Justice must not only be done but seen to be done.”
As the situation unfolds, students and rights groups are rallying support to ensure the matter is not swept under the carpet. The campus atmosphere remains tense as many await the next move by the school authorities.
NAPS has called on all students, civil society organizations, and concerned Nigerians to stand in solidarity, echoing the mantra: “An injury to one is an injury to all!”
