PTI Poly Launches FGN-TVET Skills Training and NSQ Certification Programme in Delta

The Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Effurun, has officially launched the Federal Government’s Technical Vocational Education and Training (FGN-TVET) Skills Training and National Skills Qualification (NSQ) Certification programme.
The event, held at the Institute’s main auditorium, brought together top management, industry leaders, staff, students, and stakeholders in Nigeria’s technical education sector. The initiative represents a major step in strengthening the nation’s technical education and vocational skill development framework.
In his keynote address, Dr. Samuel Onoji, Principal and Chief Executive of PTI, emphasized the critical role of hands-on technical training in today’s competitive global economy.
“Technical skills are the backbone of the oil and gas industry. At PTI, our mission is to ensure graduates are industry-ready,” Dr. Onoji stated. He highlighted that the FGN-TVET Skills Training and NSQ Certification Programme will equip thousands of young Nigerians with essential vocational and technical competencies within a structured, standardized framework.
The NSQ certification will serve as a benchmark of competence, enhancing participants’ employability and global competitiveness. Dr. Onoji further stressed that technical and vocational education is pivotal for Nigeria’s economic transformation.
“This programme equips our youth with market-relevant skills, aligning with our commitment to cultivating a workforce capable of meeting both local and international industry demands,” he added.
The FGN-TVET initiative is designed to upgrade the skills of Nigerian youths through specialized training across multiple disciplines, while facilitating attainment of National Skills Qualification certifications. This complements PTI’s mission of delivering high-quality technical education and producing professionals who can meet the evolving demands of the oil and gas industry and related sectors.
Dr. Onoji highlighted the importance of collaboration between PTI and industry partners to ensure training remains relevant and responsive to labor market needs. Live demonstrations of training modules and testimonies from former PTI graduates showcased the practical impact of vocational education.
PTI plans to work closely with local businesses and community stakeholders to ensure the programme aligns with dynamic job market requirements. According to Dr. Onoji, the initiative reinforces PTI’s reputation as a leading center for technical and vocational training and reflects a national commitment to skill development, job creation, and economic growth.
The launch event also featured presentations and goodwill messages from key officials, including the Institute’s Registrar, Mr. Isaac Fregen, who reaffirmed government support for enhancing employability through vocational education. Training modules will cover critical technical disciplines such as welding, instrumentation, and mechanical maintenance.
Students and aspiring trainees attending the ceremony expressed excitement, describing the programme as a transformative opportunity to gain practical skills and recognized certifications that will enhance career prospects both in Nigeria and abroad.
