Nigerian polytechnic Staff (SSANIP) raises alarm over non-disbursement of Nov salaries amid economic hardships
The Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Polytechnics (SSANIP) has expressed deep disappointment and concern over the Federal Government’s failure to disburse November salaries to workers at Federal Polytechnics and related institutions nationwide.
This has come at a time when Nigerians are grappling with severe economic challenges, which have made timely salary payments a vital necessity for workers and their families.
Comrade Philip Adebanjo Ogunsipe, the National President of SSANIP, emphasized the dire implications of the salary delay, stating, “Timely salary payments are not just essential but critical for the sustenance of our members and their families. This unwarranted delay has imposed severe financial hardships, further exacerbating the already difficult living conditions faced by Nigerian workers.”
According to SSANIP, the root cause of the current issue lies in the ongoing migration of payroll systems from the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS) to the Government Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS) within tertiary institutions.
While this transition was anticipated to be seamless, it has been fraught with inefficiencies.
“Unfortunately, there has been no transfer of staff records to facilitate the migration, and essential human capital needed to oversee this process has remained unfulfilled,” Ogunsipe explained.
He added, “This oversight has left many institutions in disarray, unable to process salary payments.”
The union is calling for immediate action from key government bodies, particularly the Office of the Honourable Minister of Finance and the Accountant-General of the Federation, to address the issue and restore confidence among workers.
“We urge the Government to take decisive steps to rectify this pressing issue without further delay,” Ogunsipe said, highlighting that SSANIP remains steadfast in advocating for the welfare of its members.
Workers in the polytechnic sector are growing increasingly agitated as the delay persists, putting additional strain on families already facing tough economic conditions.
