NBTE accreditation team hails FCMLT Provost for college’s greater heights

A team of officials from the National Board for Technical Education led by Dr. Kubra Jauro, on Monday, visited the Federal College of Medical Laboratory Science Technology in Jos, the Plateau State capital, for the implementation and physical resource inspection aimed at expanding the accreditation programmes of the college.
While speaking with journalists after the visit, Dr. Jauro said the visit would afford the NBTC the opportunity to assess the level of preparedness of the institution to offer courses in medical and health technology.
Jauro said, “We have toured the facilities, especially the medical laboratory facilities, and what we saw exceeded our minimum requirements for establishing the programs.
Therefore, he commended the Provost of the College, Professor Sunday Etukudoh for working to reposition the college for greater heights, adding, “While I can not pre-empt the final recommendations as our report will be determined by the Board, we are satisfied with what we have seen on ground so far as the college has adequate facilities for the programs”.
Meanwhile, Prof. Etukudoh, in his remark, attributed his success to President Bola Tinubu’s reform policies, which he said have created positive impacts on the College.
According to him, President Bola Tinubu has committed his administration to concrete actions and policies that would drive positive change in healthcare delivery in the country, and the College was leveraging this to produce the best laboratory scientists for our hospitals and other hospitals across the globe.
The Provost further stated that the renewed hope agenda of Tinubu in the health sector has been successful through the appointment of scholarly Nigerians with the hearts and thoughts of Nigerians in mind at the helm of affairs.
“When you look at the background of Professor Mohamed Ali Pate, Dr. Tunji Alausa, and even the Permanent Secretary, Kacholom Shanti Daju, you’ll see that the Ministry of Health is blessed, and this is due to the innovative and excellent choice of its personnel.
“So, what we are able to achieve here transcends from the top. We are encouraged, motivated, and given the tools to succeed. That is why we are driving this particular cadre to provide the human resource for health for Nigerians,” Etukudoh emphasised.
FCMLST Jos, which has taken a pioneering status as the first institution to offer a National Diploma in Medical Laboratory, is seeking accreditation in five health and technology programmes, including Epidemiology and Disease Control, Public Health Technology, Environmental Health Technology, Medical Laboratory Technology, and Institutional Administration.
Our correspondent recalls that only last year, FCMLST got approval to host the Fellowship Training of West Africa Postgraduate College of Medical Laboratory Science.
This was a sequel to a report of the accreditation visitation Team of the College to FCMLST on October 20, 2022.
