LendSafe Loan App Review: Interest Rates, Repayment Terms, and Why Borrowers Should Be Careful
Borrowing money online feels like a quick fix when emergencies strike, but not all loan apps in Nigeria play fair. Some platforms promise instant cash but charge sky-high interest rates and use aggressive collection tactics that can ruin your reputation. One app that has raised many complaints is LendSafe.
If you’re considering borrowing from this app, read on. This review explains LendSafe’s interest rates, repayment duration, overdue charges, and what it actually costs to borrow.
LendSafe Loan Interest Rate
LendSafe reportedly charges an interest rate of 35% per loan cycle. Let’s explain better:
- Borrow ₦10,000 → repay ₦13,500 in less than two weeks.
- Borrow ₦20,000 → repay ₦27,000.
Compared to licensed digital lenders in Nigeria (who charge 10%–25% monthly), this rate is extremely high.
LendSafe Repayment Period
The repayment window is very short — usually between 7 to 14 days. That means:
- A borrower taking ₦30,000 will need to find ₦40,500 within two weeks.
- If you miss repayment, daily penalties start piling up.
Such short-term repayment plans make it hard for most Nigerians to cope, especially when income isn’t steady.
Overdue Penalties
One of the most dangerous aspects of LendSafe is its overdue penalty charges, reportedly ranging between 5%–7% per day.
Example:
- ₦10,000 overdue by 7 days → extra ₦3,500–₦4,900 added → repayment could rise to ₦18,400+.
- ₦20,000 overdue by 7 days → extra ₦7,000–₦9,800 → repayment climbs to ₦36,800–₦38,000.
This daily compounding interest can trap borrowers in never-ending debt cycles.
Debt Collection Tactics
Many borrowers have complained that LendSafe uses aggressive recovery methods, such as:
- Sending defamatory SMS to borrowers’ contacts.
- Harassing family and friends with threatening messages.
- Insulting borrowers on WhatsApp when they miss repayment by just one day.
These practices are unprofessional and harmful, making repayment even more stressful.
Is LendSafe Licensed?
From available information, LendSafe does not appear on the list of CBN or FCCPC-approved loan apps in Nigeria.
This means:
- They cannot legally sue borrowers in court.
- Their main weapon is intimidation and shaming.
- Even after repayment, some borrowers still report harassment.
The Risk of Short-Term Loans
Short-term loans with high interest rates may feel like a quick solution, but they often lead to financial distress. Borrowing repeatedly to cover old debts creates a cycle of debt that is difficult to escape.
Instead of falling into this trap, borrowers should compare regulated loan apps that offer longer repayment windows (30–90 days) and lower interest rates.
Safer alternatives include:
- FairMoney (interest from 10–30% monthly, up to 90 days repayment)
- Branch (flexible repayment terms, less harassment risk)
- Carbon (transparent charges, licensed by regulators)
- Aella Credit (personal loans for salaried workers)
LendSafe may provide instant loans, but the high interest rate (35%), short repayment period (7–14 days), and daily overdue penalties (5–7%) make it a risky borrowing choice. Borrowers should prioritize licensed loan apps with fairer interest structures. Remember, a loan that feels convenient today could destroy your finances tomorrow.
