ASUP Tackles Edepoly Management on Academic calendar

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Federal Polytechnic Ede chapter has expressed dissatisfaction over the recently approved 2021/2022 academic calendar released by the academic board.
The union said that the 2020/2021 academic session is yet to be concluded thus isn’t proper for the school management to approve a new academic calendar when the previous session is yet to be completed.
The Polytechnic lecturers stressed that they won’t observe activities in the 2021/2022 academic calendar until the school management attends to these issues.
ASUP chairman, FPE chapter disclosed this in a communique issued at the end of the meeting held on Tuesday 14th June, 2022 where they deliberate on the 2021/2022 academic calendar and resolved that 2020/2021 academic session must terminate before the commencement of a new session.
The statement reads, “You will recall the Emergency Congress held on the 6″ of June 2022 where Members received first hand reports of the outcome of the Meeting held by the Union Executives with the Management Committee in a meeting that held on the 2” of June 2022…
“Members will also recall that the congress having received reports notably from the Chapter Executives. The Academic Board Representatives and Senior Members of the Academic Staff on the issue of the 2020/2021 academic calendar with the Chapter Executives informing on how the concerns of the Union regarding the 2021/2022 calendar was not even allowed to be discussed at the meeting of 2 June, 2022 by the Chairman of the Management Committee despite this was an item in the agenda for discussion…”
“The Congress on the 6th of June, 2022 resolved that the 2020/2021 Academic Session must terminate before any commencement of a new session as earlier indicated in the calendar released by Management for the 2020/2021 abridged Calendar and to remind the Management to keep to the agreement it reached with the Union on the discontinuation of abridged calendar.”

The statement added “As there was no positive feedback on the demands tabled before Management, the Union reconvened on the 14th, June,2022 to deliberate on the way forward and thus resolves to distance themselves from the 2021/2022 Academic Calendar while continuing to observe the activities/tasks remaining in the 2020/2021 academic calendar until at a time all issues put forward are attended to.”
