Applications Open for the African Development Bank 2025 Internship Programme (Session Two)

The African Development Bank (AfDB) is now accepting applications for the second session of its 2025 Internship Programme. Established in 1964, AfDB is one of Africa’s most prominent multilateral development finance institutions, with 81 member countries—54 of which are located across the African continent. This internship is part of the Bank’s broader Talent Management Strategy, which supports its Ten-Year Strategy and the five strategic priorities known as the “High 5s.”
About the Internship Programme
The internship is designed for highly motivated graduate students seeking hands-on experience in a reputable development finance institution. It offers participants exposure to the Bank’s operations while helping identify potential candidates for future employment. However, the internship does not guarantee a job offer upon completion.
Candidates should be pursuing or have recently completed postgraduate studies in disciplines that align with the Bank’s focus areas. These include but are not limited to:
- Agriculture
- Finance and Accounting
- Engineering
- Legal Studies
- Governance
- Procurement
- Risk Management
- Sustainable Development
- Data Science
- Economics
- Human Resources
- Information Technology
- Communications
Priority is given to applicants whose academic backgrounds are relevant to the Bank’s mission and operational needs.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify, applicants must meet the following conditions:
- Be at least the age of legal adulthood in their home country and no older than 30 at the time the internship begins.
- Be currently enrolled in a recognized postgraduate program or have graduated within the past year.
- Be a national of one of the Bank’s member countries.
- Be fluent in English or French (the Bank’s official working languages).
- Be proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Knowledge of SAP is a plus.
- Provide a letter from their academic institution confirming current enrollment or a copy of their graduation certificate.
Internship Duration and Format
The internship period ranges from three to six months and is a one-time opportunity per candidate. Interns may work remotely or be assigned to one of the Bank’s offices, depending on departmental needs.
Remote interns must ensure they have a reliable internet connection and access to the necessary equipment. On-site interns are responsible for their own travel and accommodation expenses. The Bank assists with entry and residence permits where required.
Interns receive:
- A monthly stipend to support living expenses
- Medical insurance coverage for the duration of the internship
Strategic Focus
The programme plays a part in advancing AfDB’s development goals, including promoting gender equality and inclusive economic growth. It also aims to attract passionate individuals committed to Africa’s long-term progress.
