AFIT STUDENT EMERGES BEST OVERALL WINNER

A student of the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT), Kaduna, James Kushirya, has emerged as the best overall winner of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) National Essay Competition. The HN1 student of AFIT won the keenly contested competition with his essay on the Role of Technology in Banking Operations and Payment Systems in Nigeria.
The yearly Otunba Debola Osibogun National Essay Competition for undergraduates in Nigerian Tertiary Institutions was usually awarded during the Annual Conference of the CIBN with the aim of motivating students studying Management Science, Business Administration, Economics, Actuarial Science, Insurance and Marketing in universities and polytechnics accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).
It is noteworthy to add that AFIT is the only institution of higher learning in Nigeria accredited by both NUC and NBTE and the growing impressive performance of its students in national competitions reflect the emphasis placed on excellence by the incumbent administration of the Institute lead by Air Vice Marshal SL Rabe. It would be recalled that AFIT has been winning different awards in research and technology re-echoing the contribution of AFIT to manpower development across aerospace and allied professions associated with the aviation industry.
The 2024 edition of the competition was the 7th since its inception by its benefactor, Otumba (Mrs) Debola Osibogun. The Air Force Institute of Technology was awarded a desktop computer for producing the best overall winner while the student went home with a laptop and One hundred thousand naira cash prize.
The first runner-up, Agbara John-Mary Esomchukwu from the University of Nigeria, also went home with a tablet and Seventy Thousand naira while the second runner-up, Ugochukwu Thelma Chinazor from the Yaba College of Technology was given a leap book and fifty thousand naira as consolation prize. The three top winners were also to be sponsored to the CIBN conference, visit to industry leaders and registration for its professional examination. They were also to be published in ICBN publications and other platforms.
