Apply Now: Fully Funded Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program 2026 at the University of Pretoria

The University of Pretoria (UP), in collaboration with the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program, is inviting applications from young, academically gifted Africans for fully funded undergraduate and postgraduate (Honours and Master’s) scholarships. This initiative is designed to empower talented students who demonstrate strong leadership potential but face financial and social barriers to accessing higher education.

About the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program

The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program was first launched at UP in January 2014. Since then, it has provided life-changing opportunities for hundreds of students across Africa to pursue quality education. With the start of Phase 2 in January 2024, the program has broadened its focus to include not only academically gifted youth, but also refugees, displaced persons, and individuals living with disabilities.

This initiative is about more than scholarships—it’s about nurturing the next generation of African leaders. The program equips scholars with not just academic skills, but also values, leadership qualities, and entrepreneurial mindsets to drive social and economic transformation across the continent.

Vision of the Program

The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program is committed to building a vibrant network of young African leaders who will give back to their communities. Scholars are expected to make meaningful contributions through leadership, innovation, community service, and entrepreneurship.

Graduates are further supported as they transition into employment, launch entrepreneurial ventures, or continue their studies. The long-term goal is to create a movement of changemakers shaping Africa’s future.
