ASUP President Gives Update On strike Action, Say Government is not Serious With Negotiation

The Academic staff union of polytechnic (ASUP) said that, they are yet to decide whether to go on strike or not.
ASUP President, Dr Anderson Ezeibe in an interview on Saturday 30th April said the union will determine its decision on their next National Executive Council (NEC) Meeting.
The president confirmed to POLYTV that they are yet to fix date for the NEC meeting.
Dr Ezeibe further said, “As at today (Saturday), we are yet to fix a date for our NEC meeting,” adding that “it is at the meeting that the committee will look into all the issues in contention and review the progress made so far and then take a position that will be of interest to the generality of members.

Dr Ezeibe further said, even though government had been meeting with the leadership of the union and even fixed the next meeting to May 9, government had not been able to show seriousness as regards meeting the union’s demands that involved money.
Recall POLYTV had earlier reported that the one month ultimatum issued to federal government will expire on Wednesday 4th May 2022.

The polytechnic lecturers are demanding for the implementation of the agreement signed with federal government in 2021 which include the release of #15B revitalisation fund which is yet to injected up till now.
POLYTV Reliably gathered that Federal government has scheduled a meeting with the leadership of ASUP and the meeting will hold on Monday 9th May 2022 in Abuja.
Moreso, the leadership of the National Association of polytechnic students (NAPS) said they are working behind closed doors to dialogue with ASUP not to go on strike.
