NASU urges govt to resolve crisis caused by IPPIS platform

The Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities and Associated Institutions (NASU) has charged the Federal Government to resolve the crisis caused by the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS) in the payment of salaries and allowances of workers in tertiary institutions.
The Federal Government recently migrated the payment of workers in the tertiary institutions back to the Government Integrated Financial Management System (GIFMIS) following protracted agitations by the university-based industrial unions against IPPIS.
Rising from the regular meeting of its universities and inter-university centre trade group, NASU expressed satisfaction with the exit but observed that there are still unresolved issues that were caused by IPPIS and have taken to the new platform (GIFMIS) that must be resolved.
In a communiqué signed by the Chairman of the trade group, Buhari Suleiman and Secretary, ‘Damola Adelekun, NASU explained: “The Council-in-Session observed with satisfaction the machinery put in place in implementing the decision of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) in respect of exiting the Tertiary Institutions from the operations of IPPIS.
“Council, however, noted the lingering inconsistencies associated with IPPIS operation, prompting the agitations of the unions to exit the payment platform, some of which include irregularities in payment of salaries and allowances; unpaid promotion arrears, short payment of check-off dues, and non-release of third-party deductions, among others.
“Council, therefore, called on the Federal Government and the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation to ensure that the inconsistencies and all liabilities created by IPPIS are inherited by the Government Integrated Financial Management System (GIFMIS) to resolve them. Council further urged that the new payment platform (GIFMIS) should take on board the gains of IPPIS, such as credibility and transparent payments of members’ salaries, entitlements, union check-off dues, and 3rd party deductions.
