$5,000 Seed Funding for African Technology Startups – Apply for 2026 Non-Dilutive Grants

African tech entrepreneurs continue to face a major financing gap, with startups on the continent raising only $2.2 billion in 2024, accounting for just 0.6% of global startup funding. Only 5% of seed-stage African startups advance to Series A funding, highlighting the urgent need for accessible early-stage support to help innovators scale transformative digital solutions.
The Tony Elumelu Foundation 2026 Entrepreneurship Programme is offering $5,000 non-dilutive seed grants to African technology entrepreneurs, along with comprehensive business training and one-on-one mentorship. Since its inception in 2015, the foundation has invested over $100 million in more than 20,000 entrepreneurs across all 54 African countries, generating jobs and fostering business growth.
These seed grants serve as the critical “first check” that bridges the gap between ideas and investable businesses, particularly at pre-Series A stages where 75% of African startup funding is concentrated. The programme targets entrepreneurs developing scalable ICT solutions that address Africa’s most pressing development challenges.
Support and Resources for Selected Entrepreneurs
Entrepreneurs selected for the programme will receive:
• $5,000 direct non-repayable investment
• Access to world-class business training through TEFConnect’s online platform
• One-on-one mentorship from industry experts
• Connection to global networks of investors, partners, and international markets
The programme prioritizes ICT4D innovations in sectors such as fintech, digital health, agtech, climate tech, education technology, and connectivity—areas driving Africa’s digital transformation.
Eligibility Criteria
• Open to citizens or legal residents of any African country, aged 18 and above
• Founders of early-stage businesses (0–5 years old) registered and operating primarily in Africa
• Diverse applicants, including women founders and Francophone, Lusophone, and Arabic-speaking entrepreneurs, are strongly encouraged
Application Deadline: March 1, 2026
